The RightsML Profile currently includes only the XML syntax for ODRL 2.0 rights expressions, as this is the only syntax for which there is a published schema.

While XML syntax is suited to a number of methods for delivering syndicated news feeds, including embedding rights expressions in IPTC's NewsML-G2 format, there are methods of delivery for which XML syntax is not suitable. Future issues of the RightsML Profile may add support for additional syntax options, including (but not limited to):

• RDF in either XML syntax or one of various non-XML serialisations (e.g. N3, Turtle)
• RDFa or microdata for embedding rights expressions in HTML
• Adobe XMP, an RDF subset used to embed metadata in PDF and various non-text media file formats.
